ABLE: Accurate Blood Loss Estimator

Blood loss during surgery is a guesstimate by the surgical and anesthesia teams.  Underestimate of blood loss can lead to delayed transfusions causing death or heart attack on the table.  Overestimate of blood loss leads to unnecessary transfusions with associated risks, and a waste of a precious healthcare resource (donated blood).  Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (SABM) estimates $10 billion unnecessary blood transfusions each year, so accurate blood loss estimate not only saves patients but allows each hospital to potentially recoup $1M/year. ABLE is a wireless device that silently and intelligently estimates and displays a real time accurate estimate of blood loss during surgery.
